Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:
- Every squad includes only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by real players grant full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for players looking for alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Player Responses: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else details everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Player Input
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
Should the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
