Brian Eno Urges Public Help to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project seeks to send support to Gaza's residents while also spotlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Chance for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to support Palestinians during the holidays. He acknowledged the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I’m not gonna be completely let down if it doesn’t, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the version of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Featured Artists
The song was recorded after a solidarity show held in late summer. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the performance was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of musicians contributing to Lullaby includes a range of prominent voices from the music world. All participated in the earlier concert, which managed to collect a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a trio of producers and composers. The track blends a combination of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.
The group managing the initiative have stated that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These resources will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“There is no a rigid aim,” a spokesperson said. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the area was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of property reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a couple of million doesn’t make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is first of all raising awareness for this issue and proving that another narrative exists.”
The track is set to be released at the end of the week. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a digital service from the 19th of December.
