Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Regional Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing assault against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is unclear and the United States has remained silent.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck sites linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Additional Developments
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.
Officials reported missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
