Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
