Orbital Pictures Show Iranian Navy and Nuclear Locations Struck by Joint US and Israeli Strikes.

A series of US and Israeli airstrikes has according to analysis destroyed or damaged a minimum of 11 Iranian naval vessels since the weekend, new orbital imagery show, with rocket sites and nuclear sites also being targeted.

Photographs of the southern Konarak naval military port and the Bandar Abbas port facility, which overlooks the strategic Hormuz Strait and is home to the main command of the Iran's naval force, depict black smoke pouring from a number of warships on Monday and Tuesday.

Naval Fleet Incurred Significant Losses

Included in the targets eliminated was the Makran, Iran's most sizable ship which had served as a unmanned aerial vehicle platform. Satellite images showed thick smoke emanating from the ship which had been stationed at the Bandar Abbas base.

Analytical reports suggest that no fewer than a quintet of warships at Bandar Abbas were "damaged or eliminated". Photos of the southern part of the harbor show smoke emanating from the IRINS Makran, while additional ships seem to be impacted, with a single one visibly ablaze.

Over at Konarak, images display multiple damaged vessels, with intelligence reports identifying damage to six vessels. Photos taken on the start of the week also show that multiple buildings at the base have been demolished.

"For a long time the Iranian regime has threatened commercial vessels," a senior US military official said. "Today, there is not a single Iranian ship operational in the Arabian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz or Sea of Oman, and we will not stop."

A number of ships allegedly sunk may have been concealed in aerial photos by weather conditions or battle damage, or targeted offshore, and have not been conclusively proven. Separate reports stated that one Iranian ship was foundering near Sri Lankan territorial waters, resulting in a rescue operation.

Rocket Installations and Nuclear Locations Attacked

Neutralizing Iranian missile bases and the stopping atomic bomb programs were declared as other aims of the military strikes. Satellite images also showed strikes on the southerly Khorgu and northwestern Tabriz missile bases, and at the Konarak air air base, where rocket warehouses and bunkers were hit.

At the Choqa Balk-e UAV facility to the west of Kermanshah, extensive damage was observed to sheds, bunkers and UAV launching apparatus.

Destruction was also observed at a surveillance station at the Zahedan airbase in eastern parts of the country, close to the frontier with neighboring nations.

Significantly, the most recent series of strikes have apparently hit installations at Natanz – considered at the center of the country's atomic program. The UN's atomic energy body commented that the damaged buildings were used for entry to the site's underground nuclear plant and that "no nuclear fallout" was anticipated.

Wider Impact and Analysis

Defense experts indicated that the attacks appeared to have "significantly degraded" the Iran's naval ability to sustain standard operations using its biggest warships. Nevertheless, it was stressed that Tehran retains the capacity to launch irregular strikes at sea through the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, small submarines and its so-called "shadow fleet" of tankers.

The total extent of the destruction caused to Iran's defense infrastructure has yet to be fully assessed, with strikes reportedly persisting. Pictures also indicates considerable destruction to the main offices of the Iran's Revolutionary Guards in the city of Tehran.

A significant number of public facilities also appear to have been hit in the capital city and across the country since the conflict began. Reports of deaths from ground sources state that many hundreds of civilians may have been fatally injured in the strikes.

Amid continuing hostilities, review of satellite imagery will continue to assess the evolving scope of damage.
