The teenager has featured in seven matches for the Spanish giants, including five starts.

Whenever a 18-year-old makes Real Madrid history in a pivotal European match against Manchester City, it inevitably draws acclaim and the spotlight.

During his maiden start in the tournament - and fifth appearance for the team - the young midfielder made a strong impression as the fifteen-time European champions claimed a three-nil last-16 first leg lead at the Bernabeu.

The young player, who also made his club debut in the play-off round a month ago with a substitute appearance at Sporting Lisbon, then assisted the Madrid side overcome the English champions in the midweek return to confirm a last eight place.

At 18 years and 226 days, the midfielder was the team's youngest player to start twice in the Champions League's latter rounds, beating star Vinicius Jr's previous mark by a week and a half.

Rapid Ascent Through The Academy

This talent is the most recent to come through from the club's academy and is rapidly cementing himself as one of the manager's most exciting protegees.

He signed for Real from CD Leganes in 2023, having previously been with Atletico Madrid and Getafe youth teams, and initially featuring for the Juvenil C team, where he quickly made a strong impression.

Pitarch worked his way up to the reserve side and it was in a pre-season game in which they played against the academy's first team, then coached by the former defender, where the teenager is said to have caught the attention of the current Real boss, who replaced the previous coach in January.

Reports would later label the moment as "love at first sight," noting he stood out not only for his technical ability, but for the vitality, personality and determination he added to the team.

'His Greatest Quality Remains His Personality'

In the summer of 2025, ex-manager Xabi Alonso invited Pitarch to practice with the senior squad and gave him playing time in pre-season.

Yet, it was Arbeloa's appointment that proved the defining moment in his career as he came on as a second-half replacement in both ties against the Portuguese side that led to the meeting with Manchester City.

"I've dreamed of this each night before going to bed, the very first time I started playing football, every day you go to train and every day you have a game," stated the player following his first appearance.

"I have just fulfilled my dream with the greatest club in the planet and in the top tournament."

Given a starting debut in La Liga against Getafe - where he was for several seasons after arriving from Atleti in 2018 - he has retained his spot for the next four as injuries to Jude Bellingham and Dani Ceballos created an opportunity.

Pitarch has taken it with performances that have defied his youth and inexperience.

"He is a very quick footballer, and you can see his capabilities," remarked the coach. "He is extremely energetic, with great endurance, effort and mobility."

The player's mindset has also impressed his manager.

"His greatest quality is his character," added he. "He always wants the possession, and even under pressure, he remains unfazed.

"I realize fans might be astonished to watch him start in a Champions League match, but he is selected because I had total trust in him to do his normal game.

"He will keep receiving chances with the first team. It is delightful to have a player like him."

A Future International Decision

Pitarch was born in a Madrid suburb, in the Madrid region, and grew up fully immersed in Spanish football, moving through youth setups before joining Real Madrid's famous La Fabrica system.

He possesses both Spanish and Moroccan citizenship, giving him the choice to represent both nations at senior international level.

Under international regulations, footballers may represent multiple nations at youth level without being permanently tied, with the ultimate choice only binding once they appear in a competitive senior international match.

He has featured for the Spanish national team at youth level, representing both the U19 and under-20 teams, and took part in the 2025 Fifa Under-20 World Cup, where La Roja made it to the last eight.

Despite this, he has yet to commit to any senior national team, who are watching his rise with keen attention.

Speaking recently, Pitarch said: "I have not taken my ultimate choice yet. Things are great with the Spanish federation, but I'll make a decision in the near future."

This scenario echoes that of other dual nationality players such as Real team-mate Diaz and Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal. While teenage Lamine opted for La Roja, Diaz decided to play for Morocco.

Focus on the Future

At present, his attention is on establishing himself in the Real side and rewarding his manager's belief.

He played 74 minutes in the 2-1 win at City, which completed a 5-1 aggregate success and a quarter-final tie with the German champions.

His substitution by fellow youth graduate in Manuel Angel underscored Arbeloa's trust in the next generation to aid the team chase trophies to come.

After his notable contributions to date on the Champions League, the midfielder is tipped to be a central figure in that.

"The manager treats me the identical way. We deal with it very normally. I attempt not to think about it excessively - I must earn my minutes on the pitch," he said following the success at Etihad Stadium.
