This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
